The Ultimate Fighter Season 13 airs on Spike TV Wednesday 9:00pm. Sixteen fighters competing for a six figure contract with UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship).
UFC is mixed martial arts fighting (MMA). My husband introduced me to MMA fighting in 1998. I was shocked when I first saw it and thought it was so barbaric. I never thought I would ever become a fan of such a sport. Then came 2005 and I saw a commercial on Spike about a new realty show The Ultimate Fighter. By this time I had seen the growth of MMA fighting and the UFC (via my husband) from 1998 to 2005 and was interested in the realty show. I was hooked immediately and haven’t missed a season. Because of the show I have become a UFC fan.
Sixteen fighters are divided into two teams picked by the coaches. The coaches consist of two of the best UFC fighters. The coaches bring their own coaches for different training, such as wrestling, cardio, jiu jitsu etc. You get a behind the scenes look on what it takes to become a UFC fighter. This is not for the weak. They train their asses off. Some of them come to the show out of shape and have to cut weight. It’s painful watching them having to lose a certain amount of pounds in twenty four hours. But then I realize they were stupid enough to show up out of shape then they deserve the pain it takes to lose the weight. Dopey. They fight to stay in the competition and can win $5,000 for a knockout. What I like about the show is that you get to know the fighters intimately and get to know their story. You could understand why they choose to fight for a living. Also watching sixteen men living in a house with no TV, radio, phone, computer and a lot of alcohol is pretty funny. Some of them lose their marbles. One of the stars of the show is the face of UFC the President Dana White. He is a character and it has been fun watching him grow the realty show. I like him because he tells it as it is. No sugar coating or bullshitting. There are rules and if they break them, Dana sends their ass home. Bye bye!! He is fair and has given many fighters that did not win an opportunity to fight in the UFC and some become superstars. Every season I fall in a love with one of the coaches and some of the fighters. Then I’m over it and can’t wait for the next season. I’m excited for this season; the coaches are Brock Lesnar vs Junior Dos Santos. At the end of the show the two coaches fight on a pay per view fight. Only one episode has aired and so far I’m rooting for Junior. Let’s see if I switch teams as when it comes to the UFC I am not faithful. If you like hand to hand combat give The Ultimate Fighter a view.
It's good to see how the fighters from the earlier seasons have progressed and become elite fighters.
ReplyDeleteToo bad we didn't get to see Lesnar vs. Dos Santos.
